What does ISO 12944 and C5M coating mean in practice?
ISO 12944 is the international standard that describes corrosion categories, environmental classes and requirements for coating thicknesses, materials and layer types. C5M coating belongs to the highest corrosion class and is used in areas with very high corrosion impact – typically marine environments, offshore, port facilities, coastal installations and heavy industry.
A professional ISO 12944-classified solution may include:
- 2- or 3-layer systems with epoxy and UV-resistant topcoat
- high film thickness for long service life
- systems for water contact (IM2/IM3) or ground contact
- possibility of wet paint or powder coating depending on the item
C5M coating is specially developed for environments with extreme salt exposure and high humidity – and acts as an effective corrosion barrier even in the most demanding installations.
