JAKOB ALBERTSEN KOMPOSIT A/S
Durable tank protection for industrial, chemical and drinking water environments
Do you need professional tank coating in Denmark that ensures maximum corrosion protection , operational stability and long-term durability? At Jakob Albertsen Komposit A/S we work both on- and offshore – with advanced coating systems for tanks of all sizes and operating environments. We solve tasks where traditional methods are not enough, and develop technical solutions that meet even the strictest standards for safety and hygiene.
Tanks are continuously exposed to moisture, chemicals, pressure variations and mechanical stress. Without proper tank coating, corrosion, degradation, leaks and downtime can result. A specialized coating acts as a strong barrier that protects the tank’s structure and ensures that operations remain safe and stable for many years to come.

Drinking water approved tank coating – when hygiene and safety are crucial
For tanks used for drinking water or food contact, there are special requirements for quality, purity and chemical stability. We work with certified, drinking water approved systems that meet international standards for contact with drinking water.
These coating types are documented according to, among other things:
- EN 1504-2 – protection of concrete structures
- EN 14944-1 – European testing standard for drinking water coatings
- WRAS (UK – Water Regulations Advisory Scheme)
- NSF/ANSI 61 (USA – approval for drinking water materials)
The coating systems are designed to protect water quality and ensure that no flavors, chemicals or particles are released from the tank surface.
Advantages of drinking water approved coatings:
- chemically inert and hygienic surface
- high mechanical strength and resistance to pressure variations
- long service life and minimal maintenance requirements
- resistance to bacterial growth and biofilm
Ideal for tanks and systems such as:
- drinking water tanks
- reservoirs and cisterns
- storage containers in food production
- water purification plant

Types of tank coating – tailored to your requirements
The choice of tank coating depends on the medium, the load and the environmental conditions. We work with a wide range of specialized systems.
Internal coating of tanks
Internal coatings protect the inside of the tank from chemicals, fluids, wear and corrosion.
Solutions may include:
- Epoxy-based coatings – drinking water approved, chemical-resistant and diffusion-tight
- Zinc-containing coatings (zinc silicate / zinc epoxy) – strong cathodic protection for metal surfaces
- Cement and glass reinforced coatings – ideal for wastewater, food or large water tanks
External coating of tanks
The external surface is exposed to UV, moisture, salt, temperatures and mechanical influences.
Typical solutions:
- Polyurethane and polysiloxane coatings
- Bituminous coatings – suitable for buried or partially buried tanks
- Thermally sprayed aluminum/zinc (TSA/TSZ) – maximum corrosion protection in marine environments
The coating process – ensuring optimal adhesion and protection
To ensure a durable and effective coating, the tank surface undergoes an extensive preparation and application process:
1. Surface preparation
- Sandblasting to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1) to remove rust, oxides and contamination.
- Chemical cleaning (acid washing or alkaline degreasing) to ensure clean metal surface.
2. Primer and first coat
- Epoxy or zinc-containing primer to improve adhesion and corrosion protection.
3. Main coating
- Application of epoxy, fluoropolymer or ceramic coating depending on the tank’s operating conditions.
- Coating is cured by thermal or UV treatment for maximum durability.
4. Quality control
- Thickness measurement (ISO 2808) to ensure uniform protection.
- Porosity test (ISO 21809) to verify the integrity of the coating.
- Adhesion test (ISO 4624) to ensure strong bond to the tank surface.
Tank coating according to international standards
We work systematically according to, among other things:
- ISO 12944 – corrosion protection of steel structures
- ISO 21809 – coatings for the oil and gas industry
- ISO 8501-1 – purity and preparation standards
- ISO 4624 – adhesion tests
- EN 14944-1 – drinking water approved systems
- NSF/ANSI 61 – material approval for drinking water
These standards ensure maximum durability, documented quality and full compliance.
Benefits of professional tank coating
With technically correct tank coating you achieve:
- extended service life and strong corrosion protection
- less risk of leaks and downtime
- better chemical resistance and mechanical durability
- compliance with safety, environmental and hygiene standards
- possibility of drinking water approved solutions
